Care Guide

To preserve the Protect’s fluorine-free water-repellent treatment, we recommend spot cleaning with warm water and gentle soap whenever possible. If they need a deep clean, follow the below steps to machine wash, but only on a limited basis.

  • Remove laces and insoles.
  • Place shoes in a delicates bag (pro tip: a pillowcase works too).
  • Choose a gentle cycle with cold water & mild detergent.
  • Shake out any excess water & set aside to air dry.
  • Shoes will regain their original shape with one or two wears.

Still slipping on surfaces

"Exceptionally comfy, but definitely not slip-proof. I bought these for our rainy winters and to avoid slipping on surfaces like my usual AllBirds - only to discover my old sneakers and boots have a better grip."

Slippery, preferred my Couriers

"I bought these as I really loved the fit/comfort of my allbirds 'couriers,' and have worn them to bits. The path to get to my house is super slippery, and I thought that the tread on these might help. Sadly they seem to have less traction than my old shoes, which are nearly worn smooth. They're like bladeless ice skates. I'm even having trouble on my university's lino-covered stairs. PROS: I didn't have to break these in - they were comfy from the start. They are definitely more waterproof than the couriers, which is nice. They look nice and go with a range of casual to formal(ish) outfits. A bit more waterproof than my other sneakers. CONS: Aforementioned lack of traction. Not much movement in the sole, which is almost platform-y. They feel kinda plastic, which to be fair is probably just to do with the waterproofing. Slightly less comfy than the couriers. NEUTRAL: The fit on these is also different to the couriers - they feel narrower or longer perhaps. Overall they're not BAD shoes, they're just kind of awkwardly in-between street sneakers and hiking shoes, but don't really do either job that well. Maybe they'd be a good skate shoe? Sorry team, I wanted to love these, but they're just not my jam."
